SUCCESS STORIES

Since 2000, WHC has been looking after deprived infants and children right from birth to 7 years of age in its centre in Sarita Vihar.  We take care of their all sorts of needs especially of pre- matured children. With different types of therapies, we try our very best to bring up ailing / pre – matured / malnourished children to lead a normal and healthy life. Given below are instances of three children whose adoption has made all of us optimistic for a new beginning for many more such children.

Almost blind child

A 2 year old baby girl was abandoned by her parents because she was almost blind. She had zero chances of recovery. We made efforts to get her cleared for adoption. Since no one came to adopt her in India, we sent her Child Study Report and Medical Report through CARA (Central Adoption Resource Agency) run by Govt. Of India to different persons abroad. One young couple saw her photo and instantly decided to adopt her.  On their visit to Welfare Home for Children, the bonding between the new Mom and the baby after just a few moments of meeting was beyond imagination. The love on the face of the mother when she embraced her baby made us hopeful for more magical and happy endings like this. We really need more angels for the little ones who are still waiting for someone to give them love, happiness and family.

Child with dyslexia

A 7year old boy came to WHC from the Child Welfare Committee. Since he was a slow learner, he was examined by the Doctors specialising in children suffering from dyslexia. It was a big effort to find out a family for him. Surprisingly a family, where proposed mother was a Nurse in USA, taking care of children suffering from dyslexia came forward to adopt him. She had three children (Two daughters and a son) of her own. But when the child was produced in the court, he couldn’t respond to the judge’s questions.  On this ground, his case was rejected. An appeal was filed in the High Court of Delhi. It was dismissed there also. The family then wanted to file an appeal against the order in Supreme Court of India.

The Supreme Court after hearing the Counsel, asked the Solicitor General of India to make a panel of child psychiatrics to examine the child and mother and give their opinion. WHC with the help of child psychiatrists, counselled the child. The proposed mother and child were examined by the Board of Doctors, who after seeing the video recording of the child playing and learning in the Children Home and the mother dealing with such types of children in USA, allowed the family to adopt that child. On the basis the report, the Hon’ble Court of India then allowed our appeal, quashed all orders of courts below and allowed the petition. The child, who was dyslexic, became a happy and normal child after his adoption. His photographs along with reports of Adoption Agency was more than enough to convince us that he needed only love and care from  parents , brothers and sisters whose love served like medicines for him.

Ojaswi, the Pre-term baby

Child Ojaswi was relinquished by an unwed mother. Since the child was pre-term and her weight too was less than 2 kg, WHC took her to Shroff Eye Hospital (one of the best eye hospitals in Delhi) to get her R.O.P done. The consulting doctor suggested getting her operated on the same day as they feared, if delayed; she might lose her eye- sight. She was operated on the same day. We feel very content and happy to save her eye sight by 80 percent and now the child is being adopted by one Indian family and doing well.
